Halfway Reflection

1. I believe that consistency is the most crucial skill that a student needs for this class. Luckily, many of the other rigorous business and science classes prepared me for this. By utilizing free time throughout weekdays to watch lectures and work on assignments, the workload decreases significantly. Not to mention, it is important to work ahead on a class of this format. Having this habit will reduce the possibility of falling behind or being stressed out.

2. While being a double major, it can become extremely difficult to stay on top of the workload. Specifically, this class has not made me want to give up because I find it fascinating. However, the workload on top of studying for other classes has made me want to give up. About two weeks ago, I had three tests in a four day period, and I became very overwhelmed. I felt like giving up, but I realized that was not an option and pushed through the tough week. I think this class has helped me continue a strong work ethic and motivated me to work harder. Reading books about entrepreneurs like Steve Jobs and watching guest lecturers has peaked my interest.

3.
TIP 1: Watch the lectures on the day that they happen. This will allow you to do well on the quizzes and keep up with the material.

TIP 2: Don't start your assignments last minute. It is very easy to tell when a student has not put in the effort. I believe that you get out of this class what you are willing to put in. The more effort you give the more you will learn.

TIP 3: Stay Positive!! As a college student, it is very easy to get discouraged and down on yourself. However, we all go through rough stretches! Having a good attitude is essential to doing well.

  1. I can relate to most of your experiences when it comes to time management. It is interesting to notice that our "TIPS" are very often the same. At the end of the day, there is no secret, time management and positive attitude are the secret to success in this class. I am, myself, a double major too. I understand the stressful work and countless hours of studies and sometimes this class just add to that .

  2. Hey Zane, I also understand the importance of having a good attitude and its influence on my work ethics. I find that my assignments are so much better when I have a determined mindset and am in the zone to get things done. Additionally, I can relate to your explanation about the difficult of balancing the course with other workload. I also have been enjoying this class but feel that I don't always have enough time to give it my all. I look forward to more of your posts during the second half of this semester!

  3. I wish I had some of the advice you gave earlier. I came to the same conclusions about scheduling and consistency that you did. I should have also emphasized not waiting until the last minute, and to make a smart schedule. That is very good advice.
